Usage of Granisetron:
This medicine is used alone or with other medicines to prevent vomiting and nausea, occur by cancer drug treatment. It is also used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting after surgery in adults.
This drug is given into a vein as directed by doctor, usually 30 minutes before cancer chemotherapy or before/during/after surgery. The drug may be given directly into a vein 30 seconds or it may be mixed in an IV fluid and given into a vein over a longer time of 5 minutes. Do not mix Granisetron with other drugs in the same injection or inject other drugs into the same vein at the same time. If you have any query about using this drug properly consult pharmacist. Precautions:
Share to doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or to other anti-nausea serotonin blockers or any other allergies if you have. Also share about medical history like stomach problems, ileus, recent surgery and swelling. This medicine may contain inactive ingredients which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. This drug may make you dizzy. Alcohol can make you dizzier. Do not drive use machinery or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Granisetron may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm. Before using Granisetron share to doctor or pharmacist of all the drugs you take and if you have any of the following conditions such as certain heart problems, family history of certain heart issues. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medicine. During pregnancy this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with doctor.
Side Effects:
Tell to doctor urgently if you have any serious side effects like stomach or abdominal pain. Remember that doctor prescribe this medicine because they judged that the benefit is greater than the risk of side effects. Headache, diarrhea, fever, pain/redness/swelling or dizziness at the injection site may occur. Get medical help urgently if you have any serious side effects like heartbeat problem, severe dizziness, chest pain or fainting. A very serious allergic reaction is rare. If you notice any reactions like itching, trouble breathing, rash and severe dizziness. Interactions:
Some products may interact with this drug include Apo morphine. Many drugs besides Granisetron may affect the heart rhythm. Drug interactions may change on medical condition or increase the risk of side effects. Do not stop, start or change in doses without doctor advice. Make a list of medicines which you are using and share to doctor or pharmacist. The risk of serotonin syndrome increases if you are also taking other drugs that increase serotonin.
Overdose:
If you missed a dose take it as soon as possible remember. If it is near next dose skip missed one. Do not take double dose to cover up. Take the doses daily same time to remember. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, Contact doctor immediately.
Storage:
Store at room temperature, away from lights, moisture, children and pets. Do not store at bathroom. Do not flush down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this medicine when it is expired and no longer needed. Notes:
